Finsexual is a term used to describe people who are exclusively attracted to individuals who are feminine in nature (FIN)—that’s where the prefix FIN comes from. This can include being attracted to women, feminine-aligned non-binary people, and potentially feminine men.
Exclusive attraction is tied to both female gender and female expression. A person who identifies as finsexual can experience attraction to any gender presenting femininely and/or any feminine-aligned genders. Since every person has its own unique perception of femininity, everyone has a different understanding of the things that are “feminine in nature.”
The term finsexual is more often used by non-binary people, but it can also be used by binary people as well.
When Was the Term Finsexual Coined?
Finsexual was coined more than 10 years ago, in July 2014, by Tumblr user pleurocarpous via pride flags for us. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community who previously defined themselves as sapphic and unlabelled adopted the term. Yet, the term has no confirmed meaning and doesn’t set any exact limits.
Finsexual Flag
The finsexual flag has five horizontal stripes, with the center stripe being wider than the others. The colors of the finsexual flag are pink, light pink, light orange, light pink, and pink.
In the middle of the pride flag, there is an upside-down teardrop in pink with a small circle near the top. Mod Raleigh, along with Tumblr user mutezeppeli, designed the finsexual flag for the community in July 2014.
However, there are some other variations of the finsexual flag you can find online. Some of them do not include the teardrop, while other versions include a violet stripe.
What Is the Romantic Counterpart of Finsexual?
The romantic counterpart is the term “finromantic.” Just like finsexual people, finromantic individuals are attracted to women and all other individuals whose gender presentation is feminine in nature, but their attraction is romantic and non-sexual. Most finromantic individuals are non-binary individuals.
