Jakotsu-baba is one of the first serious bosses in Nioh 3, whom you encounter in the Hamamatsu Castle Town Crucible mission during the Crucible Manifested event. She is a powerful yokai in the form of an old woman who wields two large snakes as weapons – a fiery (red) one and an icy (blue) one.
This is not just an ordinary enemy – Jakotsu-baba is incredibly aggressive, has a lot of health, and is capable of striking at medium and long range, which makes the fight particularly difficult, especially on the first few attempts.
And so, many players are faced with the question of how to defeat Jakotsu-baba. Today, there are many different tactics. Here is one of them.
Preparation for battle is the key to success
Increase your character’s level. It is recommended to be at least level 15-20 in order to survive in combat and deal sufficient damage.
Acquire useful abilities. Supreme Parry – restores a significant amount of health after a successful Burst Break. Enduring Destruction – increases damage to enemies after a Burst Break. These skills greatly increase survival and effectiveness in combat.
Choose the right guardian spirit. Guardian spirits with lightning elements or support (for example, to increase attack or slow down the enemy) are very useful.
Get enough elixirs. It is worth taking the maximum number of elixirs and throwing items such as kunai or shuriken with you. How to behave in battle – tactics and advice
Study the attacks. Jakotsu-baba has predictable but dangerous attacks. Wide swings with snakes are easy to block or dodge to the side. Grabs are important: when the boss starts to pull his head back before striking, avoid this movement or dodge.
Fire or ice breath – stick to sideways movements to avoid damage. These red attacks (red signals) give you a chance to perform a burst counter, dealing heavy damage.
Burst Counter skills are your best friend. Players emphasize that Burst Counter (counterattack of red signals) is the most effective way to quickly damage the boss. Activate the counterattack just before the strike – this allows you to quickly destroy his Ki (stamina) and then deliver large combos.
Proper blocking and dodging. It is often easier to block a wide strike than to dodge, especially when attacks come in series. For quick attacks, try to counterattack immediately after blocking so as not to lose the initiative.
Don’t be afraid to get close. Players advise not to stay too far away: when you are close to the boss’s body, many attacks become easier to predict, and the chances of dodging are higher.
Living Artifact and Super Forms. Use Living Artifact (spirit form) at critical moments, especially when the boss enters the Dark Realm phase – it gives powerful bonuses and allows you to deal damage without the risk of losing health.
What to do when it seems like nothing is working out
Stay calm. This is a difficult battle even for experienced players. A large number of deaths is not a failure, but part of learning the mechanics of combat.
Learn combos and timing. The more you see the Jakotsu-baba pattern, the less likely you are to make a mistake. Players advise not to rush into attacking until you see a clear opportunity.
Work on controlling your Ki. You need to manage your stamina (Ki) effectively, otherwise you risk being unable to dodge or block, which often leads to death.

After defeating Jakotsu-baba, you will receive a Soul Core and unlock the path to the next parts of the story, including the Spirit Veins system and new abilities.
The battle with Jakotsu-baba in Nioh 3 is not easy – it requires proper preparation and leveling, understanding of the boss’s attacks, timing for burst counters, and attention to Ki management.
But at the same time, it is an extremely rewarding experience that lays the foundation for further challenging battles in the game.
