Konami has officially released its sprawling Music from Castlevania: Kuro (Black) compilation across major streaming services.
Originally launched in December 2021 as part of an exhaustive 13-CD box set, the Kuro (Black) collection spotlights the franchise’s retro roots – spanning the Famicom Disk System, MSX home computers, and arcade originals. Because the album includes several different ports of the same titles, listeners get a fascinating look at how iconic themes were adapted across distinct vintage sound chips.
The tracklist features both the Japanese Famicom and Western NES arrangements for Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest and Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, alongside the Famicom and Game Boy versions of Kid Dracula. Fans can also enjoy the PlayStation score for Castlevania Chronicles right next to its original Sharp X68000 predecessor, along with selections from Castlevania (Nintendo 64) and Castlevania Judgment.
While Kuro focuses on the series’ 8-bit and early eras, its companion release, Music from Castlevania: Aka (Red), covers later entries – notably including eight bonus tracks from the Sega Saturn release of Symphony of the Night.
Both Kuro and Aka are available to stream now on Apple Music, YouTube Music, and other streaming services.
